In the Spring of 2022, NOVA received an InNOVAtion Grant presented by the Office of DEI and the NOVA Foundation.

As a result, NOVA students will have a new and unique opportunity this fall to discover how American popular music grew from its roots, the "BLUES," to become the amazing global phenomenon.

This is a new series of learning sessions called “Empowering Students Through the Diversity of Music,” will run from September 15th through December 1st on the Annandale Campus. Sessions – including ‘lunch and learn’ meetings, group discussions, a field trip and live musical performances –to illustrate how the original American musical art form known as the "BLUES" grew to become the basis of jazz, soul, R&B, country, hip-hop and rock ‘n’ roll – and spread around the world in a way that brings all races, social classes and ethnicities together through the shared joy and experience of music.

Come Chase the Blues this Fall! (and Learn Where Some of Your Favorite Music Came From)
